11. Difference Between a Chiropodist and a Podiatrist

  • Chiropodist: A regulated healthcare professional  specializing in the assessment, management, and prevention of foot disorders. Chiropodists in Ontario are authorized to perform various procedures such as prescribing orthotics, treating skin and nail conditions, administering injections, and conducting minor surgical procedures on the foot (excluding bone surgery). They are registered with the College of Chiropodists of Ontario.

  • Podiatrist: A similarly trained foot care specialist also registered with the College of Chiropodists of Ontario with a broader scope of practice in some jurisdictions. In Ontario, podiatrists registered before July 1993 may perform bone surgeries, order X-rays, and communicate a diagnosis. No new podiatrists have been registered in Ontario since that date.

By receiving care at Port Elgin Foot Clinic, patients acknowledge that they have reviewed and understood these policies. If you have any questions, please contact us before your appointment.
