Support, Pain Relief, Protection, Offloading

At Port Elgin Foot Clinic, we provide musculoskeletal assessments and individualized treatment for conditions affecting the feet and ankles.

Foot and ankle pain may arise from disorders involving muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, and other supporting structures. Our approach focuses on identifying contributing factors, evaluating foot and lower-limb biomechanics, and developing appropriate treatment plans based on clinical findings and individual patient needs.

Conditions We Assess and Manage

  • Plantar fasciitis and plantar heel pain
  • Achilles tendinopathy
  • Peroneal and other foot and ankle tendinopathies
  • Metatarsalgia and forefoot pain
  • Foot and ankle joint pain
  • Biomechanical abnormalities and gait-related concerns
  • Other musculoskeletal conditions affecting the feet and ankles

Treatment Options

Radial Shockwave Therapy (RSWT)

Radial Shockwave Therapy (RSWT) is a non-invasive treatment that delivers mechanical pressure waves to targeted tissues.

It may be considered for selected musculoskeletal conditions, including persistent plantar heel pain and certain tendinopathies.

RSWT may help reduce pain and improve function in appropriately selected patients. Treatment typically involves multiple sessions, with the number and frequency determined by clinical assessment and response.

RSWT is not suitable for every patient. Relevant medical history, clinical findings, and contraindications are reviewed before treatment.

Therapeutic Ultrasound

Therapeutic ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves delivered through a treatment applicator to targeted soft tissues.

It may be considered as an adjunct to conservative management for selected musculoskeletal conditions.

The evidence supporting therapeutic ultrasound varies by condition, and its use is determined by individual clinical findings and treatment goals.

Therapeutic ultrasound is a treatment modality and is not the same as diagnostic ultrasound imaging.

Biomechanical Assessment and Conservative Management

Depending on the clinical findings, treatment may also include:

  • Foot and lower-limb biomechanical assessment
  • Gait and footwear evaluation
  • Custom foot orthoses, where clinically indicated
  • Offloading, padding, and pressure redistribution
  • Stretching, strengthening, and activity modification guidance
  • Referral to other healthcare professionals when appropriate

Individualized Treatment Planning

Treatment recommendations are based on the presenting condition, medical history, clinical assessment, and individual treatment goals.

Not every treatment is appropriate for every patient, and outcomes may vary. The potential benefits, limitations, and relevant precautions are discussed before proceeding.

New patients require an Initial Assessment before treatment planning.
